Your Ego Is Not Your Amigo

Updated: Mar 2

Your ego is not your amigo.

In fact, it's the opposite.

A darkness within, constantly seeking nourishment and relevance, with its outward expression wrapped in selfishness and self-centeredness. It masquerades as your "friend," and will bring you to the edge of death, especially spiritually, before it eases up a bit as it realizes it needs your body (and submission to its whims) to get around.

Oh, you thought the 12 steps were about getting and being sober? That's a small part of it, a beginning as they say. After that it's all about deflation, leading to a natural reconnection to a Power greater than yourself.

That is what it means to recover. A recovery of a God-consciousness long tossed aside by what you thought was your amigo.

Once God-consciousness is attained, we have recovered.

Yes, recoverED.

And once the spiritual malady is overcome you will straighten out physically and mentally. The hopelessness of body and mind will melt away much like our fears fall from us. They used the word "seemingly" to describe the hopelessness which simply means it isn't real. You will be reborn.
